Vintage Taxco-Hector Aguilar Sterling Silver Belt 35 Inches Long. Up for auction is a vintage sterling silver belt signed Taxco Hector Aguilar 940 Eagle mark is 3. This belt, by the signature, can be dated between 1948-1955. Per "The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks" by Bille Hougart. Hector Aguilar began working for William Spratling in 1936. He eventually started his own company and many of some of the most famous Mexican Silver artists worked for Hector Aguilar. Pedro Castillo, Jose Luis Flores, Reveriano Castillo, just to name a few. Mr. Aguilar also did work for Coro. Hector Aguilar also started the workshop Taller Borda in 1948. Taller Borda closed in 1962. This belt per a postal scale has a weight of 5.8 oz. I do not have a scale that can properly weigh this piece. Sorry. The length is 35 inches by just under 3/4 of an inch. This is a wonderful example of truly fine craftsmanship Mr. Hector Aguilar could produce. I Have a picture of this belt worn as a necklace. I feel that it can be worn as a belt or a necklace. A wonderful piece to add to anyones silver collection!!! Should you have any questions, please email me.
