Selling a pair of bucollic porcelain bisque figurines made by Jean Gille / Vion & Charles Baury who founded the Rue de Paradis-Poissonniere factory of France in about 1845. They are made of painted biscuit (high quality, high fired bisque) which is a type of unglazed porcelain. The figurines of a young woman with flower decked straw hat, and young man with hairy goat skin vest are beautifully and intricately painted and decorated. The modeling of this lovely pair is magnificent. The identical pair of these is currently offered for sale on ebay for $3,100., see ebay auction number 220721800502. Sadly the condition of the pair leaves a bit to be desired, mostly the hands, the basket's missing handle, the man's arm being reattached, a few shed petals from the woman's hat and a very fine, tight line about 2" long in the base of the young man, running from the base where it sits on the table upwards. This is visible only on the top of the statue's base, it does not go through. There is a fine line of what looks like dirt / rust mark on the left side of the man's neck above his collar, as you face him. Some of this line sponged off easily but the rest was stubborn so I stopped, being reluctant to do more than gently sponge these figurines. These are old, gorgeous, but not perfect. These charming figures are about twenty (20) inches tall and the bases have a diameter of approximately 6 1/4 inches. The printed green anchors inside the bases mark these stunning figures as late 19th century. THESE ARE STUNNING IN THE FLESH WITH THE SOFT COLORS, BEAUTIFUL MODELING, FINE PAINTING, MINUTE APPLIED RAISED TRIM AND GOLD DECORATIONS. The figurines have been gently sponged off with a damp cloth, and then rinsed. Much of the dust which accumulated on these statues has been removed, but further cleaning is most likely in order. These were rescued this week from an attic where they had sat for over 35 years while the lady of the house planned to eventually put them outdoors as garden sculpture due to their not being in perfect conditon. Luckily she was pursuaded to part with these beautiful figurines before committing that travesty. The orphan young man and woman figurines are hoping to find a nice home indoors, either restored or left as is because they are so beautiful! Porzellan Porcelaine Figure Figur Juene et jeunesse. Buyer pays parcel post shipping with insurance and tracking. These will be triple boxed and heavily padded for the trip to you. May be picked up in Pompton Plains, NJ.
