The Virginians". Bradbury and Evans, London. 1858. 2 Volumes. The Virginians, A Tale of the Last Century. William Makepeace Thackeray, London, Bradbury & Evans, 1858. In Two Volumes. With Illustrations on Steel and Wood by the Author. Butterscotch leather over cloth boards with grey Stonehenge endsheets, all page edges gilt. Six compartment spine decorated in gilt, title in second compartment on red leather, author's name in fourth compartment on dark brown leather. Date, in gilt, at the bottom of the last compartment. Cloth is lightly soiled and leather is in very good condition and most rubbing is on the fore-edges and corners. First edition points with "actresses" on page 207 and chapters 47 and 48 misnumbered as chapters 48 and 49. vol I pp.viii, 382, and Vol II viii, 376. Twenty three plates in Volume I and twenty two plates in Volume II including frontispieces, plus numerous textual illustrations. Light foxing on the first pages of each volume. Bindings are very tight and solid and internally the books are very clean - there are no marks (outside of booksellers), no inscriptions, no bookplates. Very good or better. In very good condition, overall. b27
