"For eight years, from 1935 to 1942, a small group of photographers travelled the length and breath of the United States, under the auspices of an agency first known as the Resettlement Administration, then the Farm Security Administration and finally the Office of War Information....they compiled a unique photographic document, a shared vision of a nation and its people that will never be equalled....Recently, sparked by the interest of Hank O'Neal, the eleven original photographers (the deceased Ben Shahn and Dorothea Lange were represented by their spouses) gatd to select photographs they themselves wished to see published."
