Hi, I'm Hew. I have enjoyed collecting flow blue, polychrome and transferware since 1970. Alas, it is now necessary for me to simplify life, downsize and make a portion of my collection available to others. I have also placed several pieces in my antique shop booth. My first preference is to sell to my fellow eBayers, so please let me know ASAP if I need to retrieve this piece for you. Cheers! This is a tremendous, heavy and beautiful oriental floral scene Flow Blue transfer Polychrome Staffordshire soup plate or bowl by W. Ridgway & Son pottery, in business from 1838 to 1848. This plate is 10 3/8" in diameter. The rim is very subtly scalloped. The pattern is 'HONG KONG'. Interestingly, this pattern is very similar to Minton's Drooping Willow pattern (see my listing #). The under-glaze quintessential cobalt blue has great flow, and is overpainted with light and dark green, burnt orange and a light mustard. The flowing cobalt and intact polychroming against the white background, together with a shiny glaze, result in an incredibly beautiful effect. On the back of the plate is the printed and impressed potter's marks, including the pattern name. The underside of the rim is also decorated. This is just an incredible piece, and this is something, to which my prior buyers will attest, I do not say casually. This piece would pair very nicely with my item #280081342432. Short of occasional crazing that is discernible only on close inspection, this plate is in mint condition. The plate exhibits a healthy and solid ring when tapped. I have collected flow blue and polychrome since 1970, but now find it necessary to downsize and simplify my collection. I would recommend that this piece be used for display or function. In order to keep prices reasonable, I present these listings in a no frills manner. I also avoid playing with Reserve pricing. I strive to set a price that is fair, and to state clear and reasonable shipping costs. Shipping (basic, U.S.) for this large and heavy soup plate will not exceed $9.00. I always pack carefully, however, insurance is always a good idea, and I will add this unless requested not to. Items can be combined for further savings on shipping. I accept Please use the above links if I can answer any questions or if you would like to view my other available items. Thank you for looking, enjoy eBaying, and good luck!
