Beautiful Antique Vellum Set3 Volumes, Persecution in the Roman Empire Description Histoire des Persecutions pendant les Deux Premiers Siecles, Quatrieme Edition. Paris: Victor LeCoffre, 1911, Vol. IPendant le Premiere Moitie du Troisieme Siecle, Troisieme Edition. Paris: Victor Lecoffre, 1905 Vol. IILes Dernieres Persecutions du Troisieme Siecle. Par Paul Allard. Troisieme Edition. Paris: Victor LeCoffre, 1907, Vol. III. A handsome, complete, 3 volume set of Allard’s work on persecutions of Jews and Christians in the first three centuries of the modern era. The last two volumes are the 3rd edition, the first is the 4th edition, but all have been handsomely rebound in matching 3/4 vellum, with vellum spine and corners, nicely marbled boards, and red spine labels. Allard was a French archeologist and historian, who was intrigued by the persecution of religious minorities – particularly Christians but also including Jews – in Rome in the first three centuries. His work was controversial but is full of fascinating detail. Hard to find in such an attractive set!The set has been rebound in 3/4 vellum. Some library marks to spine and front covers, interiors have normal library markings. Some rubbing to bindings, interior paper a bit browned, but otherwise sturdy, clean and unmarked. A very nice set. Shipping & Payment Terms US Customers read more
