TWO VONNEGUT Franklin Library LEATHER & GILT FIRST ED’S SLAPSTICK and JAILBIRD. TWO LIMITED FIRST EDITIONS. Published by the Franklin Library, Pennsylvania, 1976 and 1979. First editions, preceding the trade editions. As stated on the Limitation Pages: "This limited first edition... has been privately printed exclusively for Members of The First Edition Society”. Beautiful full-leather bindings, stamped in gold, raised spine bands, all gilt page edges, silk endpapers. Lovely fine binding. 256 and 319 pages. Both books are in VERY GOOD condition, the gilt on the top page edges (edges of the closed books) is spotted / foxed and worn - full of light spots and rubs, may have been a result of roughly cleaning the dust off the top edge, or of spraying plants in the vicinity of the books; the gilt on the front and bottom page edges have a few rubs and scratches; otherwise the books look and feel unread - very tight, bright, clean and unmarked, with that lovely full leather smell and bright embossed golden designs. These Kurt Vonnegut First Editions look beautiful on and off the shelf.
