DESCRIPTION: Up for Auction is a wonderful Antique Nursery Rhymn Cup and Bowl. In the 1960's and 1970's I was collecting Children's Dishes, and this set is one of those purchases. I don't know what the material is, so to be on the safe side, I will say Pottery and not Porcelain. No indication on either. I have seen other Children's Dish from Germany listed as Porcelain. The combined weight is almost 12 ounces. The pictures depict the Nursery Rhymn, HEY, DIDDLE, DIDDLE. There is no printing of the verse on the bowl, but wonderful illustrations of the Nursery Rhymn. In case you have fogotten it goes like this: Hey, diddle, diddle! The cat and the fiddle, The cow jumped over the moon; T he little dog laughed To see such sport, And the dish ran away with the spoon. In the center of the Bowl, and front of Cup, is the illustration of the Colorful Cat playing his Fiddle , the Dressed up Dog laughing and the Cow jumping over the Moon. The Bowl has 4 additional illustrations near the edge, and I took a photo of each. Also near the edge is the word Baby , which is written in script. Very little left but enough for you to make the word out. The Cup still has some of the gold color around the top edge. A little strip of decorative gold is on the edge of the handle, still in very good condition. Germany is written in a blue color on the bottom of both. it is very light on the Cup. APPROX. SIZE: Bowl: 5 1/8" across the top. 1 1/4" Outside Height. Cup: 2 1/2" across the top. 2 1/2" in Height. CONDITION: I think both pieces are in Wonderful Condition. No Crazing. Please look at all photos for Condition. Bowl: Wonderful Condition, with the Colors in the Illustrations nice and bright. Center of bowl does show a few scratches/cuts from being used. The one that you can see a bit is between the Fiddle and goes up into the Blue Sky. Check my photo showing the Little Calf and you can see one between the illustrations. Of course, enlarging the photo makes all look more obvious than actually is. Little illustrations show very little missing color from use. I mentioned the word "Baby" is barely seen. Rubbing my finger around the edge I felt one tiny tiny pin size rim nick above the Little Calf. Rest felt smooth. On the Back, the raised area that would lay on the table shows some little wear and tiny tiny nicks. Look at my back photo. No Crazing. Cup: Also in Wonderful Condition. Illustrations looks great with all colors nice and bright. About half the gold color is still on the rim. All of the Gold Color is still on the handle. Rim edge feels smooth. Handle on nice and tight. Bottom edge of cup, where it would rest on the table, is in Wonderful Condition. No Crazing.
