Up for auction is an Art Deco Era beaded necklace with original components. This strand is comprised of 2 types of beads threaded onto a fine wire under chain and a stepped, concentric ring barrel clasp which is tapped and threaded. The round 5mm diameter green beads seem to be made of etched glass and alternate with metal beads, tubular and I think perhaps an early use of aluminum dating the piece to about 1935. These metal beads are 6.5mm diameter with concave cup ends...their size allows the smaller round ones to nestle up into the cupped areas creating an intriguing combination and play between the two very different types and shapes of these beads...almost snake like. End to end the strand is 18 1/2", once closed with the well working clasp it has a wearable length of about 18 1/4" and I'll add a weight once I have it. It will be either added to the description or if bids are pending, the info will be attached as an addendum down below. There are a total of two (2) fluted end caps, see Pic 5, one on each terminal end that hug the terminal bead; and a total of 85 beads: 43 green and 42 silver. The under lay threading chain is of soldered construction and has an age related film of oxidation and I am uncertain as to what metal it is...the wire to make up the links is fine gauge and oval in shape with an overall width of 1mm. I note a a repair to the chain (a wire ring has rejoined the chain under one of the metal beads but it is unseen when the necklace is worn -- also, please note the thread on the clasp by the bolt end ring connector, I am unsure of its purpose and haven't felt the need to fiddle with it but I supposed you could remove it if you like. The necklace looks great and wears just fine just as it sets and despite its slim 1/4" width this one packs some punch. I like all of the components and with the geometric clasp in silver -- if you attach a small finding this necklace could be worn with this clasp and finding at center front. Purchased second hand from an estate liquidator who maintains a storefront here in the Bay Area. I purchased two other strands from her (being offered in concurrently running eBay auctions and shown in the final photos) and all had similarly hued green stones. The day I bought them and left her store, I was wearing the three of them combined along with other silver jewelry I had on and I thought I looked pretty cute :) -- which is really funny because I am really not so cute at all :)! So there you have it! Please refer to images for your take on age, design and condition. My best guess as to age would be mid 1930', most excellent design which I consider 'elegant' by and through its simplicity -- I love the tasteful choice of components and find this a case where 'less is more'. I think this piece is in great visual condition with above stated thread issue(s) whatever that is about...it is most wearable and it happily mixes with other slips of silver with no worries!
