Description: Featured in this auction is a spectacular Art Nouveau Chinese silver bracelet that combines delicate silver filigree work and an almost true-to-life carved figural panel with the most stunning enamels you have ever seen! I guarantee that this is a genuine vintage Chinese piece that dates it in the first quarter of the 20th c. so bid with confidence. The bracelet consists of three parts with the central link being 2 1/8" long and 1 1/8" wide. Bezel-set in the middle of this link is a marvelously hand-carved panel depicting a scene from some country festival or parade with a man playing music and a second person following him bearing a flag. I believe the panel is made of ivory - it is not bone as I cannot see any of the usual brown or greyish black spots in it.
When closed the bracelet's inner circumference is 6 5/8" while its width in the back falls down to 5/8". The two side "wings" and the filigree that surrounds the central panel are embellished with magnificent enamelwork in vivid iron reds, cobalt blues, deep sky blue and lime greens. The quality of workmanship on this piece is truly impressive - I tried to provide several photos so that you can assess it yourselves. The bracelet is marked on the inner side of one "wing" with "CHINA SILVER" in relief on an applied panel. Condition: Condition on the bracelet is excellent! I still find it difficult to believe that delicate silverwork, miniature carving and enamelling as seen on this piece are in such great shape - I don't see any breaks or cracks and almost no wear. Upon very close inspection with a jeweler's lupe can one discern two small spots w the enamel is missing - the first at the end of one of the tassels on one "wing", next to the clasp; the second in one of the barrel-shaped motifs again in one "wing", on one side. They are both negligible and do not detract at all from the way this bracelet looks ( I have pictured both of them so please refer to the photos). A second thing I would like to mention is a possible tiny chip off the ivory panel - I am not sure it actually is a chip but I think that a very small piece at the leftmost corner (as you face the panel) of the "field" on which the two figures stand might have broken off. I am only mentioning this for full disclosure - if it is indeed a chip, it is miniscule and does not really affect presentation at all. This is maybe one of the best vintage silver, ivory and enamel pieces I have seen in early 20th c. Chinese jewelry and it will definitely kick your collection several notches up! Thank you very much for your interest. Feel free to email me if you have any questions and please, take a minute to view my other antique / vintage jewelry auctions.
