Beautiful pillow cover from the early 1900's. Stored in a cedar chest for many years. This American Indian maid may be a generic Indian woman or a famous woman such as Pochahontas, Sacajawea. Her dress appears to be more like a plains or western tribe. She has a bear tooth and trade bead necklace and a fringed leather dress. It is a screen print of some sort with a background textured like birch bark (those spots are not stains or tears but part of the background. The pillow cover has gold twisted braid fringe typical of souvenir items of the early 1900's. The back looks like a sateen cotton with an opening so that a pillow can be inserted.Measures 20" square, plus the fringeIf any eBayer out there that can tell me more about this beautiful pillow cover I will add it to the auction page.
