This is a beautiful vintage (1900s to early WWII) Japanese Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (DNBK) member merit badge. This is in mint condition in a mint condition lacquered case. The badge is made of silver and decorated with a gold gilt portrait of Prince Komatsu-no-Miya Akih ito Shinno, the first pre si dent of the DNBK . The badge opens like a book and shows it was awarded for "Labored Successfully." It measures 41 mm from top to bottom and weighs 14 grams. The inside of the case shows it was made by Shobido of Tokyo. Shobido made various jewelry, badges and medals. A little background on the DNBK: In 1895 the elite class of martial artists with the support of the Gov. of Kyoto established the DNBK (Greater Japan Martial Virtue Society) in Kyoto to promote and standardize the classical martial arts. Learn more about the DNBK: It should be of great interest to those into the older Japanese martial arts. This is absolutely guaranteed authentic and rare.
