Small Vintage Japanese Satsuma Lamp

Lovely white shade

Up for auction is a tiny, beautiful hand made and hand painted Japanese Satsuma Lamp. Although the lamp appears quite old, it is in pristine condition. This Satsuma is one of the "pagoda" Satsumas, and does not bear a human likeness but instead carries a small Japanese pagoda on its back...and also, a unique feature of this Satsuma is that the tiny elephant appears to be holding a golden "ball" on the end of its trunk.

The lamp stands just 7" tall (from the base to the top of the socket) and measures just 11" tall including the white cloth lampshade...the base measures about 5" in length, and a couple of inches wide, however, the elephant itself is only 4" long. The base is made of wood, but the Satsuma inself is ceramic, and colorful. Atop the base stands a multi-colored elephant which is brown with orange trim...additionally its ears are orange, as is the underside of its trunk - very colorful. Also, inset throughout the elepahant and robe are small ivory and burgundy, shiny, "stones," perhaps a dozen or more on each side.

Please note: the Satsuma lamps are made of some sort of breakable pottery material...and the ceramic portion of these lamps is in excellent condition - no chips or visble markings except for some wear and tear on the gold
