Philco 48-141 Farm Radio, Restored & Working Great Art Deco styling on this classic Philco tube radio. Bakelite cabinet, model 48-141, I believe this was manufactured in 1948 and is still in excellent working condition. It has a portly unique style. Runs using 4 loctal vacuum tubes, receives the AM band. Back in the day, many rural locations didn't have access to electricity, so battery operated radios were often used. The original battery for this model is no longer available so I've made a battery pack using standard 9 volt batteries in series for the high voltage and a standard C cell for the filaments. I'll also include a copy of the schematic. The cabinet on this beauty is in incredible condition. The Bakelite is a deep marble brown that shines. There are no cracks or chips or any damage beyond a few light scratches. The brown Bakelite control knobs and the dial scale are in excellent condition. Uses an external long wire antenna. The radio was completely restored a few years back and is in excellent working condition with no hum or scratchy controls. When powered up, it pulls in AM stations across the dial & plays them clean, clear & loud with good tonal quality here in Falls Church with a 20 foot wire. This Philco would make an excellent stand-alone display piece. But its looks and style would also hold their own in any collection. read more
