For Auction is a Signed Piece of Mexican Pottery by R. Miranda - This is a whopping 6 3/4" perfectly sculpted egg that's hatching 2 baby Giraffes! The collectible is part of the art movement you saw in Mexico some years ago where everything was being hatched from eggs.Like Gregg Thompson & Ferro, these pieces represent a timeline work of art, or , because it is a craft item...one would say folk art. Most I've seen are between 3-4". I have seen the same concept (same artist) hatching toucan's, etc. and understand that this theme is popular. The piece is in good condition although there are a few spots on the back of the left Giraffe ear and neck (down near base where he enters the shell too) where I can tell some of the ceramic finish on the body has flaked off or you can tell isn't uniform. If I pushed hard, the entry of one of giraffes into egg (around all those delicate hatching areas) would give way. So this piece will not be perfect. (the price has been adjusted accordingly) I will tell you; however, that when displaying, nobody will see any difference. I've tried to photograph and you can see the indications if you study my photographs with a keen eye.
