VINTAGE NORWEGIAN GUILLOCHE PIN AKSEL HOLMSEN This lovely scenic brooch was made by Aksel Holmsen of Sandefjord, Norway. It is sterling silver with enamel. The back is marked 925S Sterling Made in Norway and has Holmsen's maker's mark of crossed jewelers bench tools. I am not sure how old it is. Holsen opened his shop in 1932. The C clasp for the pin would seem to indicate it is an older piece. The pin depicts a Nordic scene of a moose in the snow with evergreen trees. The enamel work in the sky gives it dimension and the colors indicate either sunrise, sunset, or perhaps the aurora borealis. The brooch measures about 2 inches long and about 3/8 inch from top to bottom. Photo 9 shows it next to a penny for scale. It is in good condition with no cracks in the enamel. There is a small chip to the top layer of the enamel at the point that the moose is looking toward (photo 10). The pin is straight and sharp and is held in place well by the clasp. There is quite a lot of tarnish on the silver. I have not cleaned it in any way. Please use the "enlarge" and "zoom" features to examine the photos.
