Up for bids is a very cool late 1970's early 1980's Game Used Ohio State Buckeyes Football Jersey. This jersey was made by Champion and has tagging usually used by Champion in the 1970's. is what I know about this jersey based on my research. This jersey was worn by kicker Vlade Janakievski from 1977-1980 and then reissued to Walt Norley from 1981-1982. They both wore the #13 based on OSU's official media guide. The jersey has Janakievski nameplate sewn to the jersey and then Norley's nameplated was sewn over it. I have to say this is a rare sight to see. Typically old nameplates were removed before a new nameplate was sewn on. Jerseys were often reissued years ago by teams to cut costs. Since the original player was a kicker it didn't absorb a tremendous amount of use as you'd see on say an offensive lineman. I have also watched youtube videos of early 1980's OSU games and this jersey looks exactly like the jerseys seen on the videos. From wikipedia: Vlade Janakievski (born April 10, 1957) is a former American football placekicker of Macedonian origin, for the Ohio State Buckeyes . He was a walk-on player from the soccer team who handled the placekicking duties for the Buckeyes in the 1977-1980 seasons.During Janakievski's career at Ohio State he was the first OSUkicker to be selected twice to the All-Big Ten team. In his first year as a kicker (1977), he made all 44 of his extra point attempts, and is second all-time in extra points (172) for the Buckeyes. He set numerous records during his time playing for coaches Woody Hayes and Earle Bruce .Janakievski finished his Buckeye career second of the Ohio State's all-time scoring list (behind Pete Johnson ), with 179 career points. Nearly 20 years later he remains fifth on that list. Only Keith Byars , Dan Stultz , and Mike Nugent have since surpassed his career total.Janakievski was selected to the Ohio State Football All-Century Team in 2000, and was inducted into the Ohio State Varsity O Hall of Fame in 2004.Announcer Brent Musberger frequently refers to Janakievski during his broadcasts of Ohio State football games, especially when played at Ohio Stadium . Janakievski now owns a catering business in Columbus, Ohio named Easy Living, and Musberger can be heard exclaiming, "Vlade, w's my sandwich?" Norley was a highly touted QB from Germantown, PA, but due to injuries never saw any playing time with OSU. He actually transferred to the University of Georgia and was a backup QB for the 1983 season. He lettered for the Bulldogs that year. He now works in the soil industry and helps maintain playing fields and golf courses. He has worked along side one of OSU's most famous alums, Jack Nicklaus. All of the above information was acquired through my research and is factual to the best of my knowledge. I am just doing my best to provide as much information about this jersey and the players as possible. The jersey measures just about 21/24 inches pit to pit and 33 inches long. It is tagged a size Medium. I provided two pit measures to account for the underarm gussets. It has screened on numbers, stripes, and the letters on both nameplates are screened on a mesh material nameplate. This jersey is in excellent condition for its age. Awesome to wear or collect!!
