OFFERING THIS WEEK A FANTASTIC COLLECTION OF VINTAGE ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS. Offering a collection of three wonderful portraits, amazingly costumed/dressed very much of the period of three actresses + cuts of their signatures.MAE MURRAY Excellent vintage original 8 x 10 stamped on verso with MGM information for THE MASKED BRIDE. Is it her signature on verso? Given the years between the photo and cut signature anything is possible the filligree of her M's" seem telling. Murray is the most famous of this collection, she was known as "The Girl With The Bee Stung Lips". She started on Broadway ballroom dancing with the very famous Vernon Castle, became a headliner for the Ziegfeld Follies around 1915 and made a successful break into silent films in 1916, about 35 of them, her best known, THE MERRY WIDOW. She co-starred with Rudolph Valentino in two films and is credited by many for giving him his first break. Like many her transition to talkies was not successful, and after a bitter custody battle for her son, it seemed she did not have the finances to care for him and he was raised in a foster home. Murray, an eccentric, ultimately fell into poverty living the rest of her life in the Motion Picture Home.
