Up for sale is a fantastic one of a kind original signed "Araujo 1971" gouache vintage 1960's -1970's Pulp Art cover illustrated painting, from the defunct publishing company Editorial Continental, Mexico City. The spicey Pulps produced in Mexico during the 60's and 70's used lurid covers with images of horror, monsters, religion, and romance to surpass the extensive competition at the newsstands. Each illustration was hand painted with the purpose of being photographed and reproduced in the publication's dimensions. The extremely bright colors are typical of the Mexican palette. Another special attribute of Mexico's pulp publications is the blur between the mundane and the fantastic. Realism blended with myths is ingrained in Mexico's folklore and many of their storylines portray tumultuous interactions with the paranormal including evil ghouls, zombies, aliens and phantoms. This amazing piece of art is featured in the "Mexican Pulp Art" book and is painted on illustration board and measures 10" x 15".The back reads:" Testigo Fantasma" Col Micro-Suspenso #208This is a rare find due to the fact that a lot of this artwork was discarded after being photographed with not much attention paid to the artistic value. What an amazing addition this would make to anyone's vintage pulp and cover art collection, so don't miss out !I will gladly read more
