Here I have for you now an elegant, 1924-25 Art Deco, top of the line, R. Guy Cowan Pottery "scarf dancer" flower frog. The piece is shape number 698, known as Pavlova, designed by Walter Sinz . The frog sits in any console bowl and the flowers go into the holes, keeping the flowers fresh and giving the illusion the dancer is in the center of the flowers. Gorgeous Deco design, young and beautiful this dancer feels free. A fluid looking nude dancer with a scarf, one end under her left foot, the other in her right hand. Her left hand holding the middle of the scarf, her right knee up, bent slightly . The dancer's back is bent inward, head bowed down. There are 9 holes on the base for your floral design. The piece is marked, with Cowan and a symbol below the name and a "0" opposite , see last 3 photos.In 1917, R.Guy Cowan was presented with the first of many awards for his artistic work. His studios were in northeast Ohio, the first was before WW1, the second after the war. In the mid twenties, these gorgeous flower frogs were created by Cowan and were tremendously popular with the public, as is today. By 1928 his company was prospering, with 35 employees. The studio showed itself to be ahead of its time with the Deco designs for its avaunt - guarde clientele . Then the Depression came and eventually his studio was closed. His pottery
