This auction is for a VERY GOOD Wagner cast iron DEEP FAT FRYER, produced sometime during the 1940's, well mated to its VERY GOOD wire mesh DEEP FRY BASKET, both in ESPECIALLY GOOD overall condition. Established in 1891 in Sidney, Ohio, a full quarter century after the Griswold Manufacturing Company of Erie, Pennsylvania, The Wagner Manufacturing Company quickly caught up to become Griswold's fiercest competitor, and is known to have produced some of the finest cast iron cookware ever produced in America. Of no great surprise, after Griswold slipped into bankruptcy in 1957, Wagner controlled 60% of the domestic market for quality-made cast iron hollow ware. This very fine 60+ year old cast iron Deep Fryer m easures 7.5" rim-to-rim, 13.25" spout-to-handle tip, at 5.0" deep, and with an interior bottom diameter of 5.25". This vintage Deep Fryer is more substantial, slightly larger, and a bit deeper than Griswold's Deep Fryer produced during the 1950's . This well made, Iron Finish cast iron frying pot is incised on its exterior bottom with the stylized name " WAGNER WARE " ( with the shared "W"), plus has the catalogue number " 1265 " below . This less commonly found, matching wire mesh Fry Basket measures 6.75" rim-to-rim, is 14.25" rim-to-handle tip, is 4.5" deep, and has a bottom diameter of 5.25", and sports a wire rest, that fits nicely on the rim of the Deep Fryer, and is in excellent condition, with no broken wires, or rust present. Both pieces have been thoroughly cleaned, professionally restored, and verified as authentic, and this vintage Deep Frying pan has no chips, cracks, pits, rust, repairs, warping or bowing in evidence, will sit absolutely flat on any hard, level surface with no rocking or wobble, and will ring nicely like a bell when tapped. Having a nice rich, warm color typical of well maintained vintage cast iron, this deep fry pan set has been preseasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Infrequent and careful use has only lightly worn the fryer's interior, and with surprisingly few utensil marks or light scratches in evidence, has produced a cooking surface that is VER Y SMOOTH to the touch, and virtually non-stick!
