I am offering for bid, in separate auctions, three (3) uniquely different and vintage Wagner #5 skillets, all shown together in the last picture below. When this very fine 70+ year old #5 cast iron skillet left the Wagner factory, it was NOT encrusted with grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for routine kitchen use, now once again looks much like it did so many decades ago! This auction is for a VERY GOOD Wagner Ware-marked #5 ( Iron Finish ) cast iron skillet with a Heat Ring, in VERY GOOD overall condition . Established in Sidney, Ohio around 1891 as the Wagner Manufacturing Company, a full quarter century after The Griswold Manufacturing Company, Wagner quickly caught up and became Griswold's fierce competitor, and produced some of the finest cast iron hollow ware ever produced in America. To no one's surprise, after Griswold slipped into bankruptcy in 1957, Wagner controlled 60% of the domestic market for fine quality cast iron cookware. This less frequently found skillet variety was produced between 1924 and 1935, and the last variety to bear an outset Heat Ring, and one of the very first varieties to bear a catalogue number. This fine little frying pan measures 8.125" rim-to-rim, 8.625" spout-to-spout, 12.75" rim-to-handle tip, at 2.0" deep, with a cooking surface diameter of 6.25", and has an outset heat ring diameter of 6.5". This attractive vintage cooking pan is inscribed on the handle top with the numeral " 5", and is deeply incised on the exterior bottom with the stylized Wagner logo " WAGNER WARE " (with the shared W), and the address " SIDNEY -O- ", and has the catalogue number " 1055 " below, with NO letter suffix. Well cast of fine grained iron with only nominal exterior casting roughness, and only a very few casting bumps, dimples or flow marks in evidence, this quality-made and fully cleaned vintage iron fry pan has no chips, cracks, pits, rust, warping, bowing, or repairs, sits absolutely flat on any level surface, and rings nicely like a bell when tapped, but does have some slightly darkened spots on the exterior bottom from rust removal, that will disappear with use. Very collectible to be sure, and having a warm, rich dark color, this well-maintained cooking skillet has been pre-seasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Frequent and careful use of this frying skillet has mostly worn away the manufacturer's milling marks "CARTWHEEL EFFECT", from the polished interior, now more visable on the interior sides and in the spouts, and despite just a very few tiny utensil marks, has created a cooking surface that is VERY SMOOTH to the touch, and virtually non-stick!
