Walnut Ridge Collectibles Flying Pig 6" 1999

By the nineteenth century, potteries in America were producing their own versions of Staffordshire in Red, Yellow and Stoneware. Enterprising potters used a more fragile medium of plaster to create figurines. It was much less expensive, not fired and quicker to produce. Sold from peddler's wagons, brightly painted statues were o of the first luxury items that nearly everyone could afford. It was called CHALKWARE. The statures were usually slipcast in a two-part mold held together by string or clamps. Allowed to harden the mold was then opened, the seams smoothed, and the surface painted. The mold was then reused an number of times to make a quantity of figures.

Each piece of Walnut Ridge Collectibles is hand-poured and individually hand painted, true to their heritage. Each statue is then signed and dated. Walnut Ridge Collectibles welcomes you to the tradition of collectible Chalkware. Whether you choose one of the Walnut Ridge figurines as a gift or as a distinctive heirloom for your home, you will have purchased a collectible whose value will last for generations.

This pig is done with a hanger in the center of his wings, which are done in an antique gold and covered with crystal glitter. He is marked, Walnut Ridge Collectibles 1999, it looks like it is a second coat of the same label? No chips, or cracks.
