We are very pleased to have the opportunity to present, for your consideration, this beautiful Tall Walnut Victorian Cylinder Roll Secretary Desk with Burl Accents, Bookcase Top and Lovely Crown (Circa: 1880). This elegant Cylinder Roll Secretary Desk appears to be wearing its original finish, weighs approximately 175 pounds, and measures 95 ¾" in height (from the floor to the top of the crown), 44" in width, and 25 ½" in depth. The space from the floor to the underside of the pull-out writing surface measures 30 ½" in height. This beautiful Tall Walnut Victorian Cylinder Roll Secretary Desk with Burl Accents, Bookcase Top and Lovely Crown is in excellent condition for its age, has many wonderful details and is just waiting for its place of prominence in your home! The top is graced with a lovely gently curved top crown adorned with a leaf and scroll motif that surrounds a center raised burl panel. The shoulders of the crown are further adorned with carved rosette roundels. This beautiful crown sits upon the crown moulding on the bookcase top. The bookcase top has three large adjustable walnut shelves that measure 12" deep by 30 ½" long and the wavy glass in the doors appears to be original. An intact working lock with tasseled key is found on the door. This key also works with the intact locks that are found on the three burl-clad drawers and the side door. The area beneath the desk top is accented with burled scalloped moulding and the sides of the burl clad cylinder roll have fluted moulding. The burl on the cylinder roll is fantastic and the ebonized knob pulls appear to be original. Behind the cylinder roll, t are 6 open pigeon-hole compartments, a larger center compartment, and a pull-out black felt writing surface. Two petite drawers beneath the pigeon-holes provide some storage opportunity. All of the drawers on this cylinder roll desk are constructed with Knapp joinery (a sign of quality). Speaking of drawers, t are a total of three (not including the two petite drawers) . Each of these three larger drawers is adorned with rectilinear burl panels, has intact working locks, and period brass hardware that we believe to be original. Finally, additional storage opportunity is found behind the burl clad bottom door and double wooden castors are found on the feet to provide ease of movement. Novice antique collectors should be aware that any antique over 100 years old will have some type(s) of slight or minor imperfections or marks of character. It is exactly these time-acquired features that intrigue collectors to ponder about how the piece must have been used and by whom.
