Early Edition LEAVES OF GRASS Walt Whitman Purchased from the estate of Mary Mapes Dodge and inscribed to her by an unreadable name (see photo.) Ms Dodge was the author of Hans Brinker and the Silver Skates and the editor of St. Nicholas , the children's magazine. The book is very good/fine. Top edges gilded. Pages ruffled as they often are when hand cut. MANY uncut pages. Two photographic portraits of Whitman. Several facsimile Whitman autographs. Book appears to have been seldom or never read - it's in GREAT condition. 455 pages, including index 5-1/4"x8-1/4" A handsomely bound edition. A "double whammy" for collectors. (1) an early and elegant copy of a famous adult work (2) from the library of a famous children's author
