The piece up for your bidding pleasure is this magnificent pair of wall pockets, by the renowned Walter Fleming. Each piece stands at approximately six inches in height, is signed on the back, and is flawless in every respect of its condition. These pieces feature Walters signature Ash glaze base, which he applies first, with his crushed glass & Cobalt oxide over the face which leaves that truly spectacular blue from the chemical reaction, the glaze on these pieces was applied thick, and just looks spectacular! These pieces really are just magnificent, and a matching pair at that! T is a nice little biography ver batum from a discussion I had last weekend with Walter at the Brattonsville South Carolina Show! Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoy the bio Walter Flemings pottery Carrier began in 1986 when he started to turn pottery. In January of 1987 Walter met the famed master potter Burlon Craig. Walter visited Burlon, and learned from him for over fourteen years! You never stop learning! Burlon helped Walter with formulating glazes, as well as giving advice on making pottery, occasionally firing in Burlons kiln and vice versa. Walter Fleming learned many of the techniques he still uses from watching Burlon. Though it was rather hard for Walter to do so as Burlon is right handed, and Walter is left. Walters work uses the same basics that can be seen on Burlons, from the technique of face application too the way in which he applies, and pulls snakes, handles, etc. Walter still formulates his own glazes, who's formulas are secret! Walter has six too eight overall recepies for glazes that he mixes, matches, and what not. The base glaze that Walter uses is a ash glaze, which is alkaline based, as all ash glazes are. Alkaline explaining a broad spectrum of glazes. The glaze that you see that is greenish tan has crushed glass in it. The "Choclate" glaze has ten percent iron oxide in it (rust!) The glaze which turns blue under different temperature is cobalt oxide based, and when certain temperatures are applied the blue comes from the reaction! Now that is cool! Though Walter does have some "slip", but... has never ever ever used it... still unopened in the bag! Walter specializes in both face jugs, and left hand swirl, which is rather unusual, and really beautiful. Walter turns, and dries his pottery in a settlement home that is estimated to be from 1860, the home was once a greenery for a dairy farm. In the fall of 2000 Walter and his wife moved the old settlement style home to its current location because of the expansion of roads in the area. Religiously, you can find Walter either out in the barn with his finished pottery & Kiln or working out in the old settlement home!!THANKS FOR SHOPPING TOBYWOBY "Who you buy from can be just as important as what you buy!"
