DESCRIPTION: For auction is a very nice original oil painting by Walter McCown. I have seen several Walter McCown abstracts, and I can honestly state this is the nicest I have seen. This painting is on masonite, with thick texture in a wood frame that compliments the piece well. Walter Edwurd McCown (1932-1994) was a popular mid-century Texas artist. McCown was born in Whitney, Texas, and lived in McAllen, Harlingen, and Waco. He studied art with Dollie Nabinger, Eleanor Roth, and Normah Knight. He began exhibiting with the Texa Watercolor Society in 1951 and in 1960, won first prize in the El Paso Sun Carnival Art Exhibition. Has was also a member of the Texas Fine Art Association and exhibited in their exhibitions. He moved to Waco in 1957, and then began to exhibit nationally from Los Angeles to New York. The other painting is one I am also including with this auction listing. The artist of this piece is Clive Holmes. I do not know this artist, but the color tones and frame make this a nice pairing with the McCown painting. SIGNATURE: The artist's signature is located in the lower right corner of the painting and reads McCown (see photo).
