1953-68 Pennsylvania Broadway Limited Streamlined Cars - Assembled All nine (9) new HO scale factory painted and assembled models of streamlined, smooth side passenger cars by Walthers. Painted tuscan red and black with yellow lettering for the Pennsylvania RR. No road number but decals enclosed for each car. Thundering over the great "broad way" between New York and Chicago, no finer train served the Pennsylvania than the "Broadway Limited." Its exclusive clientele demanded -- and received -- the very best, from equipment to impeccable service. Flagship of a Blue Ribbon fleet of luxury streamliners, the Broadway was the ultimate blend of luxury and speed. Based on cars used between 1953 and 1968, and re-created in exacting HO Scale, Walthers seventh complete name train captures the magic of the Broadway at its very best. As most of the cars were used on other Pennsylvania trains, modelers and collectors will be able to mix and match most of these cars as a starting point for modeling other trains from the Blue Ribbon Fleet. PROTOTYPE HISTORY Introduced in 1912, the Broadway Limited offered superb luxury and service between Chicago and the heart of New York City. Flagship of the Pennsylvania Railroad's passenger service, it quickly developed a fierce and loyal following. Always accorded the finest, the train was streamlined in 1938, and refitted in 1949. Just 10 years later, the Broadway became America's last all-Pullman streamliner following archrival New York Central's merger of the 20th Century Limited with the combined Pacemaker/Commodore Vanderbilt. Pennsy continued the grand traditions of the Broadway and there was a brief increase in revenue. But as the Pennsylvania faced mounting financial problems, even its best train was expendable, and the Broadway made its last run on December 13, 1967.
