This is an original "wanted for murder" supplemental bulletin poster from the San Francisco Police Department, circa 1969. The Zodiac Killer was a serial murderer who terrorized Northern California in the late 1960's. He wrote bizarre, taunting letters to police departments and newspapers, and he claimed to have killed far more than his verified total of five people. The case has never been solved. This poster is dated Oct. 18th, 1969, and was issued after Zodiac cold-bloodedly murdered a San Francisco cab driver, Paul Stine, by shooting him in the head at point-blank range on Sat. Oct. 11th, 1969. It features two composite sketches of Zodiac, an earlier one and an amended or revised version, as shown in picture. The scan shown in this auction is of the ACTUAL poster you will receive. It measures 8 1/2" by 11". It is in absolutely MINT condition.I am a retired homicide detective from a California sheriff's department. I would prefer not to reveal my identity in an open auction text, but serious bidders may send me a message and I will give them my name. I am mentioned in Robert Graysmith's "Zodiac Unmasked" and my picture is actually in that book as well. I will provide a certificate of authenticity (COA) for this poster if the high bidder would like.I worked a cold case in the early 1970's which has been identified as a possible early Zodiac killing. In connection with that case, I networked with the original SFPD homicide inspectors on the Zodiac case, Dave Toschi and Bill Armstrong. I was personally given a number of these posters by Inspector Dave Toschi. Some of these ended up in a folder with other memorabilia from my past career, and have been kept in a cabinet for the last 37+ years. They are in absolutely mint condition with NO folds, tears, pinholes or yellowing. I am now selling them on EBay.Local police departments throughout the country would print mass amounts of bulletin posters like this on their own dime back in the day, but few EVER survive in mint condition as the departments could not afford to print on heavy card stock as the FBI did; tfore this fragile but mint item is an even rarer commodity. The number "90/69" at the upper left on the bulletin poster indicates that it is the 90th such "wanted" bulletin issued by San Francisco Police Department HQ in that year, 1969. Also note the names of Armstrong and Toschi, and the original case number for Paul Stine's murder, at the lower left, and the police chief, Thomas Cahill, at the lower right.More Zodiac wanted poster images can be found at/Composite1.html(The first SFPD bulletin poster issued after Paul Stine's murder, also shown on the web site for David Fincher's film "Zodiac", ) and/Composite2.htmlwhich shows another of the same poster I am selling one of Another of these same posters is pictured in Robert Graysmith's book "Zodiac".
