THOMAS SIDNEY JESUP (1788-1860) U.S. ARMY MAJOR GENERAL - WAR OF 1812 COLONEL & COMBAT LEADERWHO WAS SEVERELY WOUNDED IN ACTION IN THE BATTLE OF NIAGARA (LUNDY'S LANE)! HE WAS AN INDIANFIGHTER AS GENERAL IN COMMAND OF U.S. TROOPS AND THE TROOPS OF GEORGIA & ALABAMA, BEING WOUNDED IN THE FACE DURING A FIGHT WITH THE SEMINOLE INDIANS AT JUPITER INLET IN 1838. HE LATER CAPTURED THE SEMINOLE INDIAN CHIEF LEADER OSCEOLA! DURING THE MEXICAN WAR, JESUP SERVED AS QUARTERMASTER GENERAL & IS KNOWN AS THE FATHER OF THE ARMY QUARTERMASTER CORPS . HE ACCOMPANIED GENERAL WINFIELD SCOTT ON HIS EXPEDITION AGAINST VERACRUZ - FORT JESUP, LOUISIANA ; CAMP JESUP, NEAR ATLANTA & A LAKE IN ORANGE COUNTY FLORIDA WERE NAMED IN HIS HONOR! JESUP ALSO ACTED AS A SECOND TO HENRY CLAY IN THE LATTER'S BLOODLESS DUEL WITH JOHN RANDOLPH OF ROANOKE IN 1826.
