Auctioning a fantastic antique Mandolin. It was manufactured by the Washburn instrument co. as there Cremonatone model. Which was one of the beginning companies to manufacture them. It was manufactured circa 1900 or so. It is a classic Bowl Back model mandolin. It is made of a solid rosewood 21 rib back with inlay between each rib. Then has a beautiful top with herringbone inlay around the edge of the body & around the center. The strike guard is a large piece of Tortoise Shell inlay into the wood & then inlaid with Mother of Pearl scroll work in it. Also there is piece of various Mother of Pearl inlaid along the stock as well. The head is a solid head with an engraved piece of metal on the back with Washburn marked in it. All hand engraved along with the butt plate covering where the strings attach. It is a very high end model the #225 version with a serial number of 221098 inside on the original paper label which reads that this Cremonatone model won awards at the 1893 world's fair & another in 1894 for another. It is also stamped 225 just above the label. Now on to the condition. The body appears to has been refinished at one time. The top of the main body has some separating around the bottom left curve when looking at it from the front. Could be professionally pulled together I'm pretty sure of. There is one small flake out of the stock see pics. There is some minor herringbone missing from the center inlay see pics. The back side is tight but has some of the in between inlay on the ribs missing. Also the top of the bowl back where it meets the neck has some minor wood damage see pics. It measures 23" by 7-3/4" by 6". Enjoy bidding without reserve.
