This document is a certificate of membership in the Washington National Monument Society, stating that the bearer has contributed money to aid in the erection of the monument, and is entitled to all the privileges of membership in the society...whatever they may be. The certificate is blank as to the contributor and amount of money donated. It is signed Z. Taylor, President; Geo. Watterson, Secretary; Elisha Whittlesey, Gen. Agent; and (?) Dougherty, Agent. The lithography was done by E. Weber, Baltimore. The document is attached to the back side of a leaf with glue or paste on the corners and edges. The leaf has a litho of a view of the monument on the front. This leaf is from some publication and not a part of the certificate, but the leaf is not marked in any way that might lead to it's identification. The certificate has some light toning, a spot near the Taylor signature, 2 small tears in the lower margin of about 1/4" . The certificate measures 10.25" x 7.75". The signatures are preprinted except for the agents.
