The so-called "Lucky Horshoe" clock was in reality named the 'HASTINGS' when the Waterbury Clock Company introduced it into their catalogue around 1880. Through the years, horse-lovers as well as those who believed that the horse shoe is a harbinger of good luck to any home that displays it, has made this nice clock very popular. The pendulum is quite ornate with a deeply molded brass top and side arms around the nickle center barrel (see photograph). The clock runs well and keeps good time--striking the hours on a clear nickle bell. The door glass features a silver design with a horse shoe motif and buggy whip (see close-up photograph). On the back of the case there is an almost complete original Waterbury label (see photograph). Only the upper left corner is missing. These labels are often gone altogether because they were paper and glued onto the back of the case where they were frequently rubbed or torn off when the clock was moved through the years. The label describes in detail about the innovative design of the clock mechanism. We've only found one other like this through the years, so here is the second for some lucky buyer who claims it quickly before it rides off to another home!!
