A very detailed and fine, signed watercolour on board by one of the most accomplished watercolour artists - RICHARD WARD. The painting is in an as new condition, the colouring is superb and shows the following butterflies: Orange Tip and Large Blue. The background scene is of Little Bossington Farmhouse, Adisham, Kent (details on the reverse). This was probably produced as a book illustration. Size 215mm by 140mm approx. Richard Ward (16 Oct 1916 to 9 Mar 1993) was a landscape artist and painted windmills, watermills, wildlife and transport. He was self taught and produced artwork for the Brook Bond tea picture card series (see for example "British Butterflies", which was illustrated and described by Richard. He also produced aircraft illustrations for the "Profiles" series of magazines. Artwork for Southern Region (B) series and cards for Noel Tatt. Served in the war in the RAF. Lived in Grantham, Lincs and then Whitstable, Kent in the mid 1980's. One of his steam train watercolours sold for £390 see prints of his work are selling for around £20.
