Up for auction is this fine pair of WATERFORD crystal candlesticks and cherry wood bases!!

These candlesticks are from the Waterford Crystal AMERICA'S HERITAGE COLLECTION. They are called the GEORGE WASHINGTON BICENTENNIAL CANDLESTICKS.

The Waterford designers created these candlesticks to honor the father of our nation. They took the proportions from the classic obelisk form of the Washington Monument, with a height many times the width of their base. As stated in the enclosed pamphlet, "The five steps of the candlesticks' bases suggest the 550 feet, 5 and 1/8 inches of the Monument's singular height." The cherry wood base is to recall the myth of Washington as a boy and his commitment to truth telling. "The simple, single line that shapes the body of each candlestick recalls the numeral at the heart of America's first presidency. The closely spaced long vertical cuts on the body of each candlestick suggest the uprightness of this fine man. Their upward energy culminates in the modified pyramid shape of the top, incised with triads of wedge cuts. These are the Waterford artists' interpretation of liberty."

Each candlestick measures 11" tall, 11 3/4" tall when on the cherry wood base. The base of each candlestick is 3 3/4" square, the wood base is 5 1/4" square. The cherry wood bases are matching in color and have black felt inside and on the bottom. The top of each candlestick is 1 3/4" square and holds a standard candle.

T is a defect on the bottom edge of one of the candlesticks. It is not a chip, as it cannot be felt. I show it in one of the photos. It measures approx 1/8". They are in otherwise perfect condition, as are the cherrywood bases.

These candlesticks have the original stickers and are in the original box. The green and gold made in Ireland seahorse sticker is on each candlestick. The WATERFORD name is acid etched on the bottom of each candlestick. T are two Waterford pamphlets enclosed.

These are authentic WATERFORD crystal!!
