Up for auction is a gorgeous crystal footed compote made by Waterford, makers of the finest crystal in the world. It could also be used as a candy dish. The pattern is called Lismore, one of Waterford's most popular designs. The Lismore pattern was created by Mirek Havel and introduced in 1952. It was inspired by Ireland's spectacular Lismore castle. The tall upright wedge cuts on a band of open diamonds represent the turrets and battlements of the castle. Almost every year since its creation, the Lismore design has been the best selling crystal pattern in the world.
This elegant open compote stands 4 1/2" tall. The top of the bowl is 6 1/4" in diameter. The base measures 3 7/8" wide and is marked with the acid-etched Waterford name. It has a very traditional, but elegant look. This piece is an older compote that is no longer in production. The compote currently sold is slightly different in design (flared top and different stem). I like the older design better.
Condition of this elegant Waterford compote is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, or fleabites. It appears to have been used very little. The glass is crystal clear (cloudy look in photo is reflection from white light box). This compote looks great and would make an excellent addition to any Waterford Lismore collection. You won't be disappointed!
