In 1177, Theobald Fitzwalter was made the Chief Butler of Ireland by King Henry II. It was a noble appointment, whaich was to have a lasting influence on the family name. Indeed, by the end of the 12th century the Fitzwalters became known by the angelicized name of their profession, and henceforth the family surname was known as Butler.
Today the most prominent Butler family in Ireland is descended from Theobald Fitzwalter, Kilkenny Castle, the family home from 1375 until 1936 was the main seat of the Earls and Dukes of Ormonde, who played a prominent part in Irish history. It was the family's magnificent castle and their beautiful collection of decorative accessories and enteratining wares that inspired the Waterford Society's newest Numbered Edition the Ormonde Bonbonniere.
This beautiful Waterford Society collection piece is called the WS Crystal Ormonde Bonbonniere. It stands 9.75" Tall and is 5" in Diameter. It comes in the original Box and includes Certification of Authenticity. This is a great gift for that Waterford Society member that missed out on buying this piece or anyone that loves pure elegance in their home. It is absolutely stunning.
