This is a 1910-20s Waterman Ideal #53 Fountain Pen. It is black chased hard rubber with a scallop design. It has turned slightly brown/black with age. The number 52 means: 5 indicates it has a lever filler, 2 is the nib size. It has a gold nib with a fine writing point. It is missing the clip on the cap. It has a new sac and is in working condition. A nice, old, working pen. It is 5.37" long when capped. Barrel reads: Pat'd 1884 May 23,1899 Waterman Ideal (The print is very faint) 52 is imprinted on bottom of the barrel Nib reads: Manifold Waterman's Ideal New York I try to describe the pens as accurately as possible and disclose any damage or imperfections that I see, but I am not an expert and my knowledge is limited.
