WATERMAN IDEAL MAN BRIARWOOD FOUNTAIN PEN THE EXPERIENCE It was in 1883 in New York that Lewis E Waterman invented the fountain pen and it was in 1927 that Waterman-France invented the cartridge. One hundred years of experience in the field of handwriting have enabled Waterman to assemble in 1983 an overall mastery of luxury and design, of quality and art in a prestigious range of "Waterman Ideal" writing instruments. Of a decidedly modern conception, the "Waterman Ideal" line was entrusted to a team of designers who produced a stunning range of pens for the writers of today. They are adapted to the needs of contemporary writers different styles of hand writing, and ensure not only an ease of attaining technical perfection in penmanship but also an agreeable sensitive satisfaction of expression. THE CHOICE The choice of pen, a fountain pen or any writing instrument, is important. THE QUALITY Waterman has always remained true to the rigorous technical standards which long ago established its reputation for high quality. Meticulous and consistent control over the fountain pens during the course of their production and numerous different tests for endurance, resistance to temperatures and altitude changes and of course non-seepage. Both the most avant-garde electronic systems and the human hand are simultaneously involved in each of the 52 different inspections and quality control tests which involve the making of, for example, the MAN 100 pen. THE REFINEMENT For their precious and beautiful articles, Waterman chooses the most noble metals. Even more precious than gold, rhodium is used for the nib finish. The trimmings on the pens are in 23.5 carat gold or 95% solid silver. IN the lacquered models, the lacquer is applied in successive layers according to the traditional methods. The clips are produced from a copper based alloy known as buproberyliium whose tensility and strength have proven equally adaptable to both the Savile Row made to measure breast pockets and the thigh high dungaree pockets of the hard hat brigade. The highly perfected and ultra simple snap fastening method which replaced the screw cap of both fountain pens and felt tipped pens guarantees it, being air tight, against leaks. The precision of both the ballpoint pens and mechanical pencils make them a pleasure to use and the balance of all the instruments in relationship to the writer's hand has been carefully researched. Finally Waterman brings all the love and attention to the final product which, one would expect from a great artist. Hand made, they are each and everyone a superb example of the workmanship of the most exacting goldsmiths. The incrustations of lacquer, the tooling of the clips, the engraving of the gold, all take not only time but a lot of savoir-faire.
