For auction is a vintage / antique Wavecrest sugar bowl with a lid and handle that was made by C. F. Monroe Co. of Meriden, Connecticut. The bowl has a square shaped body with an ornately scrolled ormalu design. The color of the glass is a soft pale blue that fades to white at the center. The four sides of the sugar bowl have hand painted flowers in shades of pink with raised white toothpick enamel accents. The flowers resemble wild roses or perhaps asters. We believe this pattern dates to circa 1890. The rim of the bowl has a silver metal (? silver plate or quadruple plate) collar that securely holds the lid. A silver metal handle is attached to rim of the sugar bowl. The metal of the collar, lid and handle are very finely detailed with raised flowers, scrolled leaves and beaded accents. The metal finish has not been cleaned. Dimensions : The sides of the glass sugar bowl are about 3 ½" in length. It measures 3" in height to the top rim without the lid in place and 4 ½" to the tip of the lid's finial when it is in place. The height to the top of the handle when it is upright is about 6". The diameter of the circular glass base is 2 ¾". Marks : The bottom has a pink colored mark with the Wavecrest logo and the words Wavecrest Trade Mark The C F M Co. We could not find and identifying mark on the metal ware. Condition : The sugar read more
