Government issued and New Zealand legal tender, the $1 coin is produced to the highest standards of craftsmanship. This 2011 is issued by struck from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver. The one-ounce pure silver proof coin showcases the competition’s prize at its centre, with the Webb Ellis Cup shining through in special high-relief 24-carat gold gilding, it is also decorated with RWC 2011 Event Mark. In top edge the legend "THE WORLD IN UNION" while in the bottom "ONE DOLLAR". On the obverse the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II . BACKGROUND AND HISTORY The Webb Ellis Cup is Rugby’s most sought-after prize. Named after William Webb Ellis, the man credited with creating the game of Rugby, the Cup was discovered in the vaults of the Royal Jeweller Garrad in London.
