Victorian Vaseline and Opalescent Bridal Basket A Long Description: This is a very lovely victorian era art glass bridal basket as pics are going to show what beauty in the eye, beholds. I'm pretty certain this is from the Stourbridge region which is pointing towards Webb or Stevens and Williams considering they have made many types of baskets with a thorny handle. To start, the base is a footed tree trunk style with pressed leaf scroll pattern that is hand applied and attached to the base of the bowl. Each of the 6 tree trunk feet have grounded edges. The vessel or body at the bottom has a rough pontil that is formed and blown light uranium green glass with an 18 optic pressed rib panel through out the body which the glass is stretched or pulled out at the opening rim has a free formed white opalescent ring that is about one inch thick. Lighter colored u ranium green glass separates the opalescent wide ring band from the darker vaseline green crested rim that is hand crimped with a decorative candy ribbon accent rim. Blown light uranium green glass handle is securely attached on two sides of the bowls top portion of the crimped rim and at the top of the pulled glass rod handle is a twisted open knot. Handle is covered with tiny pinched thorns and a pressed rib or vein like bark pattern in the background with no signs of damage. I sold two other similar pieces in 2007 and called them out as Webb, nobody seemed to object. However, can't make out who is the exact glass maker, it's not marked. What I notice the most about anything victorian decor is that everything has much detail with no space to spare and this basket screams, "Victorian". Quite a whimsy and one of a kind art glass that will be the envious center piece to display. Basic Measurements: Stands 9-1/4'' tall, has a 3-1/2 "diameter opening and the rim is 6"diameters. Detailed Condition Report: 4 out 5 Stars due to usage and age, retains full color, clarity and luster. Very Fine Condition. Being a collector of victorian glass, this basket is prized and considered a very good investment which will only go up in value, as these are becoming scarce due to the popularity. Thorny handle has no chipped thorns. The rim has one chip located on one of the candy ribbons fold or crease, which is very close to the handle w the rim folds up and the chip is noticed underneath mostly. It's very hard to locate unless you flip it over or go searching for it due it shows at the crease on the top, see pic. My opinion it blends very well at the top and is not visibly noticeable. 4 out of 6 of the tree trunk feet have some tiny chipped edges, does sit completely flat and is balanced. The body or blown vessel has No chips. T is no hairline breaks, cloudiness, scratches. The entire basket "GLOWS BRIGHT GREEN" under a black light. You are bidding on the most originally made pieces of glass that some of the best pioneer glass makers paved the way for what is consider art glass today, which most were made with more hand tools that consisted of many man making hours, as compared to modern art glass manufacturing, such as Fenton, who changed in the years to beat the glass competition in the USA in the past 100+ years. And to think this basket was created during the years of Impressionist era as well. Much authenticity to appreciate through the creative glass making artistry and history this whimsy piece symbolizes. -"Confident, the determined buyer will be pleased"...... _____________________________________________ Shipping Details: Will combine shipping, as we do have many victorian art glass and art nouveau glass collectibles to offer this week.
