Rosalie is a magnificent example of the Federal Style of architecture and is one of Natchez's stately antebellum mansions. It is owned and operated by the Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution, who purchased the house in 1938. It is situated on a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. This site was chosen by the French for the first settlement on the river in 1716 and was named "Fort Rosalie" in honor of the lovely Duchess de Pontchartrain.
In the 1880s, the Boston establishment of Jones, McDuffee & Stratton Co.began to market a series of "old blue Wedgwood® historical plates." By 1910 the century-old company billed itself as "the Largest Wholesale and Retail Crockery, China and Glassware Establishment in the Country" and its Wedgwood transferware plates numbered at least 78 different historic scenes. Although the available plates heavily favored Massachusetts and scenes from the northeastern United States, a few topics outside the region made their way onto the list. UP for auction a commemorative plate by Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlaston featuring the antebellum mansion Rosalie. Back stamp indicates likely made between 1940 and the early 1950's. T is only a 4 digit code impressed in the back of the plate which I believe is 1G51. This is a dinner size plate. Part of my personal collection of DAR memorabilia. All items are sold as is. Please ask questions BEFORE you bid. All auctions must be paid for within 10 days of auction end. Failure to do so gives seller right to re list. NO PERSONAL CHECKS. Any personal check received will be returned the sale voided and the item relisted. I accept and prefer PayPal, Cashiers Checks, Money Orders. Will consider discounting shipping and handling on multiple wins. I make no promise of delivery dates after the item is received at the post office. I ship USPS Priority
