This piece is RARE worldwide and is probably the most universal serving piece in this pattern. Often described in US as a square cake plate with handles. It is NOT a plate and it is not a platter. It is almost a bowl in function. It does not make a good cake plate because it is not flat plate the way an American cake plate should be. When I bought it at Harrods in the 1970's, Harrods sold it as a Cold Meat Plate. At the time, Minton China sold a similar but flatter piece with handles and called theirs a Bun Plate and sold it only as part of a tea set that included teapot and tea cups. Wedgwood makes 'shapes in china' and then a pattern is a painted onto the shape. Over the decades, the use of the shape may change. For most current patterns, this shape is 'out of stock' as Wedgwood does a run of the more unique shapes only every once in a while and then they paint them with the current patterns. At Harrods, I would order something like this or the sandwich tray and then wait for the factory schedule to make the shape and then paint it with Runnymede in Dark Blue - as it is called in UK. Runnymede was also sold in turquoise, green, and tan versions. Wedgwood has separate sites for the US and the UK and different pieces for the current patterns appear on the UK site.
