Charnwood is a wonderful floral motif quite popular in the mid-20th Century. It has large festive roses (perhaps cabbage roses) with deep bright green leaves and stems complete with thorns. Highlighting this design are beautiful butterflies flitting through the blooms and gold trim. This pattern WD3984 was first produced by Wedgwood in 1951 ending its run in 1987. I'm not sure of the original purpose for this lidded egg box but sugar cubes or sugar substitute packs would nest well in here. Then, again, do you know someone who loves this pattern so much they find it a shame to keep it in the cupboard? Or someone who just needs some cheery flowers on their desk, end table or night stand? I've seen this listed as a "medium" egg box but it seems at least twice the size of any hen's egg I've ever seen. This piece measures in at 4 1/8 " long or 10.5 cm. On the bottom is the classic Wedgwood Portland vase in black with the words WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND printed in khaki under the logo. I don't see any chips, cracks, crazing or repairs and no indication that it is anything other than first quality. It is in excellent possibly unused condition. As is my custom it is offered here today with NO RESERVE.
