Very rare Estate Auction Sale Catalogue for the sale of a further portion of The Parnham Estate, (Beaminster, Dorset), by order of the trustees of the will of the late Vice Admiral Sir Robert O’Brien Fitz-Roy on Wednesday 24th November 1897. Solicitors Messrs Farrer and Co 66 Lincolns Inn Fields and Mr Robert Leigh, Beaminster, Dorset. Auctioneers Messrs Henry Duke and Son, Land Agents, Auctioneers and Valuers, Dorchester. The catalogue measures approx 11 inches x 17 inches. The cover is grey paper. There are five pages of information in the catalogue plus three plans or maps of the properties for sale, plus one photograph of one property. If the catalogue was split the maps would look excellent framed as would the cover. The catalogue was printed at the Dorset County Chronicle printing works in Dorchester. Page 1 gives a general overview of the auction. Comprising a further portion of the Parnham Estates situate in the parishes of Cattistock, Evershot, Frome St Quintin, Frome Danchurch, Mosterton and Scaborough dorset, embraciong an area of about 1,032 acres, producing a gross annual rental of £900, comprising the attractive freehold agricultural and sporting property distinguished as the manor or reputed manor and farm of Chantmarle, occupying a pleasant and healthy station within one and a half miles of Evershot and three miles of Maiden Newton stations on the GWR, with its old jacobean Manor House. Two valuable freehold agricultural holdings being West Farm Mosterton and the adjoining farm known as Lower Seaborough, three miles from Crewkerne Station on the L and SWR main line, which will be offered for sale by auction in three lots. The sale taking place at the Bull Hotel Bridport at 2.30 for 3.00 on Wednesday Nov 24th 1897. Lot 1 is West Farm in the Parish of Mosterton - 161 acres farmhouse, cottage and premises. There is a table listing all the different fields by name and area (27 in all). There is also a map or plan of the lot. This is coloured and measures approximately 15 x 9 inches. The map shows every field with acreage so field names can be worked out in conjunction with the table. This map has the River Axe along the bottom, and Mosterton to the East. Around the property for sale are listed the names of adjoining landowners: Lord Portman, J.R.Cox Esq, A.H.Hussey Esq, T.S.Stevens Esq. One field surrounded by the property for sale is shown as belonging to Woodcock Esq. Present day places covered by this map are: Down Road Mosterton, Mosterton Down Lane Mosterton, West Lane Mosterton, St Mary's Church Mosterton, the A3066 Mosterton, Mosterton village, West Farm Mosterton.Lot 2 is Lower Seaborough Farm, 274 acres, high class meadow, water meadow, pasture, arable and wood land with an interesting old manor house, modern farm buildings, dairyhouse and cottages situated in the parish of Seaborough Dorset, then in the occupation of Mr Robert Tolley at a rental of £300 per annum. Listed is a schedule of all the fields with their names and acreage - some 37 in all. A coloured plan/map measuring approx 19 x 15 inches shows the locations described. Around the edges of the property being auctioned are shown the names of adjoining land owners: Mrs Goff, Lord Poulett, Mr Newberry, Lord Portman, A.H.Hussey Esq, T.S.Stevens Esq, Mrs Batley. Again the map has the river Axe along the bottom and includes Seaborough. Present day places covered by this map include: Seaborough, Red Lane Seaborough, Seaborough Manor Racing, Green Meadows Seaborough. Lot 3 is the important freehold estate Chantmarle in the Parishes of Cattistock and Everstock Dorset, one and a half miles from Evershot and three miles from Maiden Newton stations on the GWR. This comprises 597 acres and included a fine old Jacobean Manor House which had been in possession of the ancient Dorset familes, the Strodes and Oglanders of Parnham since 1605.
