Everyone who likes old clocks should have at least one 'BIB BEN' alarm clock in his or her home. These are usually not the best timekeepers, but they surely do add to the ambiance of the antique decorators bedroom. According to the Patent Dates stamped into the metal on the back of the case, this beauty was made around 1930 in LaSalle, Illinois by the Western Clock Company. They named their models either the 'BABY BEN' or the 'BIG BEN'. This is the BIG BEN and has controls on the top of the case that provide for either ALARM or SILENT and the other control can be set for STEADY or INTERMITTENT (a feature that causes the alarm to ring for a while and followed by a period of silence and then the alarm sounds again....kind of like the modern-day "snooze alarm"). The little top labels that say ALARM and SILENT etc. have become quite dark over the years. The clock mechanism has been cleaned and oiled and runs with a good strong tick. The alarm mechanism also works properly. The only fault I can find is that it loses some minutes overnight...so if you plan to use it to get you up in the morning....better set the time about 20 minutes fast so you won't be late for work!! Priced at just $165...this nice clock will provide some lucky buyer with one of the great American classic alarm clocks from the 1900's era.
