Westclox Big Ben Style 1a Alarm Clock This style 1a is one of the earliest Westclox Big Ben clocks. The "leg" model or "style 1" was the first model made from 1908-1918. It had 3 screws in the front bezel. Style 1a was an update of style 1. It is the same as style 1 but has no screws in front, and the legs screw into the case. The case finish is nickel. The back of the clock indicates seven patenting dates ranging from June 9, 1908 to April 15, 1919. Based on the size of the lettering, "Made by Western Clock Co., LaSalle, Ill., U.S.A." at the bottom of the face of the clock, this clock was made circa 1924. The clock's face, including bezel, is 5 1/4". The height, including legs and ring, is 7". Depth, including rear leg, is 3 1/4". The clock runs perfectly and keeps time accurately. This model has a time adjustment lever on the back in the event that it should ever need to be calibrated. On top of the clock t are settings of "Silent" (alarm is off), "Alarm", "Steady" (alarm sounds steadily until turned off), and "Repeat" (alarm automatically comes on at short intermittent intervals until turned off - an automatic version of today's snooze alarm). On the back of the clock t are separate winding levers for the clock and the alarm, as well as knobs to set the time and alarm. This clock belonged to my father, but has been packed away read more
