Up for auction is a neat looking western dog bone snaffle bit with silver overlay. I got this bit from a cutting horse guy who was selling some of his tack and downsizing. I have several of the things that I got from him listed on Sunday and Monday night so if you are interested in that type of horse tack click on my View Sellers Other Items link and see if anything else catches your eye.The man I got the bit from said he bought it some years ago at a cutting horse futurity in Texas from a well known Texas bit maker. Well, that didn't seem to narrow down the maker's name too much. He could not remember his name and we did not see a maker's mark on the bit. I have now found the mark and I am speculating as to who made this nifty little bit. The bit is marked RT1 on outside of the right cheek across from the small fixed ring above the loose rein ring. I looked through the Bits and Spurs book by Ned and Jody Martin and found a bit maker who used that mark. Ron Tollison of Shamrock, Texas was said to have used RT followed by a number on his early bits. He is also said to make Texas style bits built for working cowboys as well as collectors. It sure sounds like he could be the person who made this bit and was selling bits and spurs at a cutting horse futurity in Texas. But I am only speculating that he is the maker of this bit. If I am
