"One short and two longs" reads the original number card on this wonderful example of a W.E. desk set. This is a fully functional original example of one of the most popular of collectible telephones today. "323" is the number on the transmitter (which is still the original carbon version) and of course the mouthpiece has the "star" and is in excellent condition; the finger stop on the dial is stamped "2AB." The subset is made from the housing of what was a W.E. wall set (this was common practice in those days). The paint on the subset is nice and shiny and the Western Electric gold decal still plainly visible. This set features new mounting and line cords of the highest quality from Odis LeVrier's House of Telephones . The receiver features the original dipole/metal diaphragm receiver and works very well. I am unsure if the receiver cap is an original; the hole in it seems a bit on the large side, but as it hangs in a downward position and is unseen, I never changed it. You can connect this phone and use it on arrival, but be aware people may wonder if you're talking through a drain pipe! The old carbon transmitters have an entirely different sound to folks on the other end of the line than what we're accustomed to today, but they will hear and understand you.
